It depends on the retailer. The vast majority accept and are currently distributing books narrated by AI voices that are indistinguishable from human voices, given that (besides profit) the main concern appears to be customer experience. For the long answer, read on (it is important, so do continue)...

If an audiobook retailer has a policy against "computer generated voices" then there is still an open question concerning what exactly is a cloned AI voice? A cloned voice is a human voice, just as much as a recording of human voice is. After all, it is still all 1s and 0s (binary code). The technology is changing far faster than policy can, and if a retailer has such a policy, it was made in the days of computer voices that sounded like a robot from a bad 80s sci-fi movie.

The spirit of the law vs. the letter of law. The reason some retailers still have this policy is because people don't like listening to robotic computer voices, and if an audiobook had such a voice, it would be returned. The customer loses, the retailer loses, and the author loses. The AI voices here are  virtually indistinguishable from human voice. Do an excellent job in the proofing process by removing or regenerating anything that doesn't sound right to ensure listeners have the best experience possible. For retailers that have a policy against "computer-generated" voices, proceed at your own risk.

What I am extremely confident about is that any such policy will be amended to explicitly embrace this technology. They have to, or they will be left in the early 2020s while the world of narration moves on without them. Apple has already embraced this technology and others will soon follow if they haven't already.

If you are not comfortable submitting your cloned-voice audiobook to a retail that has a policy against TTS, then just submit to retailers that allow cloned voices, and hold on to the submission for the others. Once the retailers do change their policy, you can submit your book.

If you are unsure about whether you can publish content featuring a cloned voice, we advise that you consider your domestic law’s stance on copyright before publishing any such content.

Currently, Audible/ACX (also Amazon) does not accept audiobooks that use AI voices or cloned voices. This will likely change in the near future, but for now we suggest distribution to all other retailers including Apple and Google which account for a significant portion of the audiobook market. We can do this for you through our audiobook distribution or you can do it yourself (you would need to Google how to distribute an audiobook and send to as many retailers as possible).

If you created your audiobook using BookBud.ai: Make sure you selected the audiobook option in step 1, then when your book is done, our distribution includes the audio. Order at https://www.bookbud.ai/book-distribution-through-bookbudai.html

If you created your audiobook directly in AuthorVoices.ai: See our distribution service at https://www.authorvoices.ai/ai-cloned-voice-audiobook-creation.html

If you have a human-narrated audiobook (non-AI), then use our distribution service at BookMarketing.pro: https://www.bookmarketing.pro/audiobook-distribution.html

If you want your book on Audible right away, we do offer a human narration service at https://www.bookmarketing.pro/creation-of-your-book-in-audio.html

Form Fields

Quality and Comparison

The quality of AI audiobook narration has improved dramatically just in the past year and can now closely match the quality of human narration. However, there might be slight differences in emotional nuance and inflection. Our created AI voices are, in general, vastly better than most human narrators, but still not better then the best human narrators.

It depends on the book. If you book has several character voices where the characters are emotional, then we still might be a year away from the kind of AI you need. However, if your book is a non-fiction or a fiction that can be read without requiring a lot of emotion, then this option is ideal.

Technical Aspects

The AI audiobook narration process begins by uploading your text or manuscript, one chapter or section at a time. Our system then processes this text and synthesizes it into speech using the chosen AI voice. You can select from our range of professionally cloned voices or even opt to use your own voice. The file can then be downloaded for distribution as well as easily edited.

To use your own voice, you would need to provide a sample of your speech. This sample is then used to train our AI model, which generates a synthetic voice that matches your own. The more clear your sample file, the better your cloned voice will be.

The advanced AI models are trained on a vast amount of data and are capable of capturing different emotions and intonations based on the context of the text. However, as with any technology, it may not be perfect and could require some manual editing for the best results.

Yes. This is why we have a unique editing process that allows you to only re-narrate as little as one word rather than a whole paragraph or section. This saves you characters, and money. Every time you narrate a section, whether the first time or the tenth time, characters are used.
