AI voice cloning for authors

Your audiobook, in your own voice.

Record about 30 seconds of yourself reading, and AuthorVoices builds a private AI clone of your voice. It then narrates your whole book in that voice, chapter by chapter, and you can fix any line without re-recording anything.

How narrating your own audiobook with AI works

You record once, for about half a minute. The AI does the hours of reading, and you stay in charge of every chapter.

1

Record about 30 seconds

Read a passage from your book into your phone or microphone, in a quiet room.

2

Upload and certify

Upload the clip, confirm the voice is yours, and AuthorVoices builds your private clone straight away.

3

Narrate your book

Upload your EPUB or DOCX, choose your own voice from the narrator list, and narrate one chapter or the whole book.

4

Fix, check and export

Re-narrate any line with Quick Fix, check the audio against your text, and export chapter MP3s and an M4B.

Getting a good recording

The clone copies what it hears, so a clean sample gives a better voice. You do not need a studio.

  • Read a passage from your own book in your normal narrating tone, for 30 seconds to a minute.
  • Use a quiet room with soft furnishings, away from fans, traffic and echoing walls.
  • Hold the phone or microphone a hand's width from your mouth and keep that distance.
  • If the recording has background hiss, tick "Clean up background noise" before you upload.
  • Not happy with the result? Upload a new sample. It replaces the old clone. Free accounts can upload three times a day.

Private to you

Your clone is tied to your account and never appears in the public narrator catalogue.

Fix without re-recording

Change a word in the text and the clone reads the new line. No booth, no retakes.

Hours of reading, not hours of recording

Whole books narrate in the background, usually within minutes.

No extra charge for your voice

It costs the same as any narrator, from the $49 one-book pass to the Studio plans.

Questions authors ask about cloning their voice

Yes. On AuthorVoices you upload about 30 seconds of yourself reading aloud, and it builds a private AI clone of your voice. The clone appears in your narrator list, so it can narrate your whole book or any single section. You can fix any passage without re-recording, then export chapter MP3 files and a single M4B audiobook.

About 30 seconds of clear speech. The clone is built from roughly the first 30 seconds of your upload, so a short clip works as well as a long one and uploads more reliably. MP3, WAV, M4A, M4B, MP4, AAC, OGG, FLAC and WEBM files are accepted. Clips under 30 seconds may sound less like you.

Making the clone is free. A free account needs no credit card and includes 5,000 characters of narration (about five minutes of audio), enough to hear your clone read a page or two of your book. Free accounts can upload up to three samples a day. Until you buy something, the clone is a trial: once your free characters are used, it is deleted about 24 hours after you made it. Buying a pass, a credit pack or a Studio plan keeps it.

Your own voice costs the same as any narrator. The Economy One-Book Pass is $49 for one book up to 400,000 characters. One-time credit packs are $59, $89, $129, and purchased credits never expire. Studio plans are $49, $99, $149 a month. Your clone works with all of them.

Only you. The clone is private to your account and is never listed in the public narrator catalogue. You can play its preview, replace it or delete it at any time from the Clone Your Voice page. Deleting it is permanent.

Only with that person's written consent to clone their voice for commercial audiobook use. Before cloning, every account certifies that the voice is theirs or that they hold that consent. Cloning a celebrity, public figure, voice actor or any other person without signed consent is not allowed.

Each account has one private cloned voice. Uploading a new sample replaces the old clone, which is useful if your first recording was noisy.

Highlight the passage and use Quick Fix. It re-narrates just that passage in your cloned voice and keeps the audio around it. You can also edit a section's text, change its speed, and run Quality Control, which checks the audio against your manuscript.

Your readers already know your voice from the page.

Let them hear it. Make your clone free, listen to it read your opening page, and decide afterwards whether to narrate the whole book.
